I would like to tell to the young people a story to remember:
When I was a little boy,my grandfathers or father, would go squirrel hunting in the summer. One day after it rained in the morning,Lame Deer had finished his chores and I just got
through milking the cows and started to the house to get water for the women,Lame Deer came to me with his Winchester 22.He said, "Owl,let's go hunting." We walked through the woods, and
for a while we sat down and took turns calling the squirrels.
We got 4 squirrels, then we got up to walk to a different location.Lame Deer stopped to look at the sky and he saw
that the sun was straight up.He said, "Well, the squirrels
are not running,it's too hot so let's go over to that log
and sit down." We sat on the log for a while.Lame Deer got
up and walked over to a very huge white oak tree and put
his hand on it, and said, "Owl,this takes a great warrior
to chop this down." Lame Deer came over and sat by me and told
me, "Owl, I am going to tell you a story that was told to me
by my ancestors about Jumping Eagle.": Many winters ago Jumping
Eagle looked at a very huge pin oak tree where other warriors
had chopped at it and gave up.One day Jumping Eagle walked over
to the huge pin oak with his ax and started to chop it,and each day he would go over and chop on the huge tree. One morning his father (Running Elk) heard a loud boom.Running Elk went out of his tepee and saw the huge pin oak down, and Jumping Eagle beside it.Running Elk walked over to Jumping Eagle and put
his hand on his shoulder, and said, "I am proud of you, son."
Many winters have gone by.Jumping Eagle has become a great
chief.
The moral of this story is: Whatever you want to accomplish,
keep at it,don't give up,and you will accomplish it.This is
called determination.
